Job Description
ACHS is seeking an Academic Dean to provide strong and visionary leadership along with faculty engagement in defining shared goals, to continue to grow the national and international reputation of ACHS. This new position will gain visibility through collaborative projects and innovative connections across a network of education and social services. Recognizing students as whole people with many strengths as well as needs, the faculty and graduates from ACHS will be better prepared to serve their communities. ACHS will provide a model for students and help to create a cadre of professionals who can address the complex issues facing wellness, education, and healthcare.

The Dean will fulfill ACHS’s promise to provide excellence in holistic health education and will position ACHS as a leader in integrated healthcare education. This new paradigm calls for a flexible set of skills and knowledge that prepare specialists with a broad view and an understanding of how to collaborate across disciplinary lines. The Dean reports to the Senior Vice President and ACHS President.

Skills
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate, administrative experience and an outstanding record of accomplishment in teaching, research and professional service in an online college setting. Experience with healthcare science, regional accreditation and Title IV would be advantageous. We’re looking for a candidate with the talent to implement our institutional vision and develop programs along with a demonstrated willingness to work on cross-disciplinary, inter-professional initiatives that advance the College mission and goals. Leadership skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff, and an ability to outreach and communicate effectively with school and community partners, regional, national and international organizations, government agencies, and alumni will be expected. Additionally, the new Dean must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity in students, faculty and staff. This position requires flexibility, commitment to educational standards and students, the ability to multi-task and deal with rapid change management, and a positive hard working attitude.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Long, medium, and short term planning to ensure that ACHS continues to fulfill its mission.
  • Oversight of all programs at ACHS, which includes all aspects of curriculum development, evaluation of existing programs, and development of new programs.
  • Faculty development and evaluation, which includes hiring of new faculty, and working with department chairs in guiding and mentoring full-time and part-time faculty, participating in the promotion process, and the dismissal of faculty.
  • Teaching at least one course per semester appropriate to training and experience.
  • Identification, support and evaluation of department chairs.
  • Oversight of budget including developing and monitoring annual budgets.
  • Work closely with the ACHS team to conceptualize and implement programs that are inter-professional and interdisciplinary in nature.
  • Work closely with the ACHS team to develop and staff course offerings for all courses.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty on the development of a shared vision for ACHS, and on the planning, development and implementation of the curriculum.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and guide the College in responding to and meeting external regulations and requirements for accreditation, program approval, and licensure or credentialing.
  • Developing and overseeing education, internships, practica, and other related field experiences.
  • Identify, develop and oversee articulation agreements.
  • Meet with students in a variety of forums to assess strengths and challenges for students in their academic and professional lives; initiate and develop opportunities for students’ intellectual and professional development, which complements and extends their preparation for practice.
  • Develop relationships with and represent ACHS with a variety of local community, state, federal, and national and international agencies and organizations.
  • Provide strong leadership and support in student recruitment and retention efforts.
