Atlanta (GA) — Photographic Imaging student John McDonald is one of four recipients from across the country to be awarded the 2010-2011 Photography Society of America (PSA) Scholarship through The Education Foundation. To enter, John submitted a portfolio of 10 photographs, as well as an essay and other materials. . He was presented with the $4,000 tuition scholarship at the Honors Reception on Wednesday, October 27, by Pat Gordy, PSA Region 13 Director for Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
John’s work was selected from a pool of 30 applications from Art Institutes schools all over the U.S. Judging criteria included academic standing, community involvement, financial need, a personal essay showing a demonstrated passion for the art, recommendations, and quality or potential of photographic work.
Upon earning his bachelor’s degree, John plans to specialize in photographing people – on location. He has already done a great deal of work in documentary photography and photojournalism, most recently documenting local farmers in Athens (GA). Like all AiAtlanta Photographic Imaging students, John is also experienced in studio photography, including product shots, and architectural photography. He is a resident of Sandy Springs.
