Pinnacle Career Institute (PCI) will celebrate its newest program, Wind Turbine Technician, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tom Picaso, System Program Coordinator — Wind, and Mark Lee, Wind Turbine Technician Instructor, will be on hand to answer questions and talk with the media. Light refreshments will also be served.
PCI’s Wind Turbine Technician program was the first of its kind in the Kansas City metropolitan area when it launched at Pinnacle Career Institute located in South Kansas City. PCI looks forward to bringing the program to their Lawrence campus.
According to Wikipedia, "Kansas has high potential capacity for wind power, second behind Texas. The most recent estimates are that Kansas has a potential for 950 GW of wind power capacity, yet has only about 1,000 MW installed. Kansas could generate 3,900 TW-h of electricity each year, which represents nearly all the electricity generated from coal, natural gas and nuclear combined in the United States in 2008."
“Step outside anywhere in Kansas and you feel the wind,” said Jeremy Cooper, Executive Director of Pinnacle Career Institute. “We need to harness that wind and channel it into alternative energy. Our Wind Turbine Technician program is instrumental in helping us do that by training students to service and maintain wind turbines.”
In the future, Kansans and visitors can expect to see wind turbines dotting the Kansas landscape. On April 21, you can get a glimpse of the future by attending PCI’s ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Wind Turbine Technician program at the Lawrence campus.
