Southwest Florida College’s CSI Program Earns Approval from International Association for Identification

Fort Myers, Fla. (July 7, 2009) – The Crime Scene Investigation program recently received approval from the Crime Scene Certification Board of the International Association for Identification (IAI). This globally recognized certification allows program graduates to take the first level IAI certification exam. The College was also approved as a regional testing center for the IAI exam.

The IAI is the world’s oldest and largest organization of forensic science professionals and represents some 6,900 practitioners in seventy five countries.

“Obtaining an education in crime scene investigation that meets strict IAI standards is a first in Southwest Florida, and distinguishes SWFC from other colleges offering similar programs,” said Denise R. Womer, Program Manager of Legal Studies for Southwest Florida College.

Students enrolled in the CSI diploma program at Southwest Florida College learn various aspects of crime scene analysis including: crime scene processing in a laboratory, forensic photography, and crime scene investigations from instructors with extensive training and experience in forensics.

Mock crime scenes are staged to sharpen students’ skills in identifying, securing, and processing various types of crime scenes. The CSI diploma can be completed in just nine months and is currently being offered at the Southwest Florida College Fort Myers and Tampa campuses.
