PHOENIX, Mar 06, 2012 — University of Phoenix and the League for Innovation in Community College, today announced a new scholarship program for community college students looking to continue their education. University of Phoenix will offer 15 deserving community college students a full–tuition scholarship to complete a bachelor's degree program at any of the University's more than 200 locations or online. The scholarship program was announced to more than 1,500 community college administrators at the League of Innovation's National Conference held this week.
The 15 full-tuition scholarships are available for qualified individuals that have earned an associate's degree from a League Alliance member college within the last five years and graduated with a GPA of at least 3.0. Recipients will be selected from a scholarship selection committee consisting of representatives from both University of Phoenix and the League for Innovation in Community College.
"At University of Phoenix, many of the students best prepared to complete their degree programs are the ones who transfer from community colleges," said Dr. Bill Pepicello, President, University of Phoenix. "We continue to invest and partner with community colleges on scholarships and other educational opportunities because they are critical in the development of our next generation of skilled workers."
Through its Community College Center of Excellence, University of Phoenix works with community colleges to build educational partnerships that bring in area business, academic and diversity leaders to identify workforce needs. The result is curriculum and specific career pathways focused on area workforce skills gaps and an opportunity for students to seamlessly transition from an associate's degree at a community college to a bachelor's degree program at University of Phoenix.
"The League for Innovation is committed to fostering additional opportunities for community college students, many of whom are first-time college attendees, returning students, women, and minorities," said Gerardo E. de los Santos, President and CEO of the League for Innovation.
"We are proud to partner with University of Phoenix to offer scholarships that will allow for these students to continue their education."
