ATLANTA (GA) – Four Metro Atlanta students have been awarded scholarships from The Art Institute of Atlanta. Three were awarded EDMC Education Foundation scholarships, and one has earned the 50th Anniversary Scholarship.
Receiving the 50th Anniversary Scholarship of $2,500 is Michael Cannova of Flowery Branch (GA). Michael will complete his associate in arts degree in culinary arts this fall. A native of Rockford (IL), Michael began cooking at the age of 16. He became sole chef-owner of his family’s restaurant in 1984 and remained in that position until 2005. He moved to the Metro Atlanta area in 2006.
The winner of the EDMC Education Foundation Scholarship for $2,000 is Gary Ziemer, who is majoring in Web design & interactive media. Laura Stieglitz and Rodrick Beazer were awarded EDMC Education Foundation Wiley Pearson Culinary Scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each.
Ziemer, in his fifth quarter, is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in Web design & interactive media. A native of Lancaster (PA), he has been in Atlanta for over 10 years, and currently lives in Midtown. Stieglitz, who lives in Kennesaw, is pursuing an associate in arts degree in culinary arts at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta. Beazer, the son of Cedric & Nornammae Beazer of Antigua & Barbuda, is currently a resident (with his aunt) of Lilburn. He is in his fifth quarter at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Atlanta, earning a bachelor of science in culinary arts management.
Initiated in 1999 as part of its fiftieth anniversary celebration, The Art Institute of Atlanta 50th Anniversary Scholarship is a $2,500 merit scholarship awarded to between one and four students each year. The students must be in their fourth quarter (but no further than their second-to-last quarter) at The Art Institute of Atlanta, have achieved a 3.5 CGPA or better in all course work, and must submit a complete application form, a resume, a transcript, and two letters of recommendation from faculty members in their major department with endorsement from their department chair. The EDMC Education Foundation Scholarship is awarded based on financial need as well as similar academic requirements. The selection committee, made up of faculty and staff, makes its decision based on the applicant’s dedication to his or her field of study, on academic excellence, and on service to the college and the community. In the case of the EDMC Education Foundation Scholarship, consideration is given to financial need. One or more EDMC Education Foundation Scholarships are awarded each quarter as long as funds are available.
