India Barnett, Anthem Institute in Springfield, Illinois

My name is India Barnett. I enrolled into Anthem Institute in February 2009. I graduated on June 24th, 2010. I was hired as the Site Technician for Anthem Institute a few days before graduation. I can honestly say that I feel truly blessed. I never imagined that everything I wanted would happen so quickly. I am at a wonderful point in my life and I could not have done it without God. I was at a crossroads in my life. Previously, I was going to Neumann University for Nursing but I slowly came to realize that this was not the field for me. At the time, I was working at Sear’s and I knew I was capable of doing much better but with no skills (on paper) and no certifications, I had no other options.

I had to step back from everything that was going on around me and figure out what it was that I wanted do. My family would always say “I don’t know why you don’t go to school for computers”, since I was always the “tech” in my family and group of friends. So, after hearing that about a hundred times, something finally clicked. I did my research and decided to go with Anthem Institute. And that was the best decision I had ever made.
It took me 16 months to finish a 12 month program. I had a lot of things going on in my life that forced me to temporarily leave school. I had even thought of dropping out. But I understood that nothing in life is going to be handed to you. You have to work hard and push through adversity in order to advance. And that is exactly what I did. I could not be happier with where I am right now in my career.
Sometimes it is hard to figure out what you want to do when you grow up, even when your already grown up.
