Fort Myers, Fla., (June 30, 2009) – Alissa Tarr believes she has gotten to where she is today because she takes on opportunities as they present themselves and she instills that in her work each day.
Quoting Babe Ruth in the signature of her emails – “Never let the fear of striking get in your way,” Tarr jumped at the opportunity to work in admissions because she said she “enjoys working with the public and wanted to help people to create more opportunities for themselves.”
Tarr began her career at Southwest Florida College in December of 2007 as an Associate Registrar. She enjoys working at Southwest Florida College because it enables her to help educate the public as well as help others pursue their dreams of achieving a higher education.
“Overall, it’s an extremely rewarding position,” she said.
With goals of strengthening the admissions team as a whole and being able to focus on each individual student’s personal needs, she believes she can make the admissions process less daunting and help students understand that the staff at Southwest Florida College are there to help them in every step along the way – from filling out an application to applying for financial aid, and beyond.
Tarr will be leading the admissions team to help students determine which career path is best for them and to cheer them on to higher success.
Originally from the DC area, Tarr has earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis on public relations from East Carolina University in 2004. She began her master’s degree studies at Cal State Long Beach a few years ago and will be going back to Drexel University in the fall to complete her master’s degree in higher education with a focus on enrollment management.
In her free time, Tarr enjoys meeting new people, traveling and learning about new cultures.
