April Shavkin, LCSW, Named Dean of Student Affairs at The Art Institute of Atlanta

Atlanta, GA — President Jo Ann Koch has announced the promotion of April Shavkin, LCSW, to the position of dean of student affairs at The Art Institute of Atlanta. She assumed her responsibilities on April 3, 2010.

Ms. Shavkin has been with The Art Institute of Atlanta since 2002, beginning as a student counselor. She served as director of counseling and disability services for two years, before being promoted to associate dean of student affairs in March of this year.

Ms. Shavkin earned her B.A. from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and her M.S.W. from Washington University in St. Louis. Before coming to The Art Institute of Atlanta, she was a care manager at the Georgia Regional Service Center, Magellan Behavioral Health, in Alpharetta. A licensed clinical social worker, she has also worked as a social service provider, outpatient therapist, and social worker in Georgia, Ohio, New York, Missouri, and Kentucky. Ms. Shavkin is an adjunct faculty member at Argosy University. She is a resident of Tucker (GA).
