Last week, APSCU President and CEO Steve Gunderson sent a letter to Secretary Arne Duncan expressing concern over the Department’s implementation of the state authorization regulations. The letter states, "State regulatory bodies and institutions need your assistance in having their questions answered as expeditiously as possible. Definitive guidance from the Department made available to all interested parties would also be helpful, as would a list of those states which the Department has deemed compliant." The full letter is available here on the APSCU website.
Today, The Boston Globe, ran a letter to the editor from Steve Gunderson responding to an op-ed by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley. In his response, Gunderson dismissed Coakley’s attempts to compare the sector to the subprime mortage crisis and cited the sector’s contributions to the state’s higher education system during a period of budget cutbacks.
