Dallas — Sept. 2 2010 — ATI Schools & Colleges has announced the 28 recipients of this year’s Larry Gilbert/Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Scholarship supporting U.S. veterans living in Texas. Each full academic scholarship will provide awardees with the necessary funds to pay for five months to three years of ATI career training, depending on their selected field of study.

"We are honored to play our part in helping these brave men and women who have served our country transition from the military to their next career."
The Larry Gilbert/VFW Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of ATI’s former corporate director of support services Larry Gilbert, who passed away in June 2008. A decorated World War II veteran who survived historic battles in Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima, Gilbert was an employee and educator at ATI for more than 30 years. This is the second year the institution has awarded the Larry Gilbert Scholarship; 16 recipients were awarded in 2009.
The scholarship is being awarded in collaboration with the VFW, with assistance from the Texas Veterans Leadership Program of the Texas Workforce Commission. Scholarship recipients can select from a broad base of course offerings at 14 Texas campuses: ATI Technical Institute, Dallas; ATI Career Training Center, North Richland Hills; ATI Career Training Center, Dallas (2); ATI Career Training Center, Richardson; ATI Career Training Center, Waco; ATI Career Training Center, Houston; ATI Career Training Center, Garland; ATI Career Training Center, Lewisville; South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, San Antonio; South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, Brownsville; South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, Corpus Christi; South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, McAllen; and South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, Weslaco.
