Louisville, Ky. (April 29, 2009) – Daymar College first opened its doors to the community more than 40 years ago. Though much has changed throughout the decades, a common thread weaves its way throughout the College’s history: a commitment to students. This commitment was the reason Daymar first opened its doors and it’s the reason new doors are opening now.
Continuing in its tradition of offering the community access to high-quality education, Daymar College has purchased another state-of-the-art facility to serve as its second Louisville campus. Located on the eastside of Louisville at 3309 Collins Lane, the expansive building offers students modern surroundings and new opportunities.
Daymar College President Mark Gabis said the newest facility will offer students the opportunity to enroll in a school with an environment conducive to learning.
“We’re always striving to provide our students a great learning environment—one that supports their journey to success. That’s why we decided to open a second campus for our Louisville students. We provide exceptional education to our students and we want to do it in exceptional surroundings. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill facility. Everything is modern and the atmosphere is fun and stimulating. We want our students to feel at home on campus,” Gabis said.
Fortis Group represented Daymar in their successful search for this new location, as well as the beautiful campus located at 4112 Fern Valley Road, which is a mirror image of the Collins Avenue location. Both campuses provide the type of exceptional facility that Daymar seeks for their students.
Built in 2001 on seven lush acres, the Collins Lane Campus is surrounded by picturesque lawns and landscaping, adding to the uplifting beauty of this architectural achievement, which was originally constructed by UAW Ford as one of its Family Service and Learning Centers.
“UAW Ford created a magnificent space dedicated to improving peoples’ lives; we will continue that tradition and take it to an even higher plane for our students,” Gabis said.
The spacious Collins Lane location provides a host of impressive amenities: The 33,000 square-foot building consists of three wings, each containing 11,000 square feet. One wing includes a stunning large-scale community room finished in warm, polished woods and featuring soaring ceilings, a surround-sound movie theater, masterful fireplace, and well-appointed computer labs and learning resource center. Plus, a fully-equipped stainless steel commercial kitchen adds the final component needed to create a superb environment to host student events and gatherings.
The other two wings will house the classrooms (each featuring its own thermostatically-controlled climate zone), student services offices, an inviting lobby, comfortable study niches, and many other student amenities.
The acquisition at Collins Lane puts Daymar College in an area that is being developed for various healthcare-related businesses, and close to several major hospitals. Daymar looks forward to working closely with this burgeoning medical community to provide highly skilled Daymar graduates to fill their hiring needs and to develop new programs to meet their changing requirements.
Daymar Facilities Director, Gary Noel, is working with Abel Construction Company, Inc. to plan renovations. Abel Construction’s established reputation for quality has helped them become one of the area’s largest regional general contractors. The company has experience in a wide range of construction projects, and worked with Daymar on renovations at the Fern Valley campus in 2007. Daymar College estimates it will spend about $500,000 for renovations and upgrades to enhance its students’ educational experience and create the warm, friendly, nurturing atmosphere for which Daymar is known.
As Daymar College opens the doors to its newest campus, it renews its commitment to its students and to the community. Enrollment is in progress for classes starting on April 20, 2009. The initial programs offered include Medical Assisting-Administrative, Medical Assisting-Clinical, and Billing and Coding Specialist.
