Effective Student Marketing, Inc. will be attending and "live-tweeting" from CareerFest 2011 in Salem, Virginia on Tuesday, September 12, 2011 on behalf of National College. The job fair is being held at the Salem Civic Center from 10 AM to 3 PM.
CareerFest 2011 is an annual event put on by The Roanoke Times. This year, National College is playing a large role in the event, offering educational seminars for job seekers throughout the day. The seminars will be presented by National College staff members and include topics like interviewing skills, professional dress and image, opportunities for job seekers with military experience, and more.
Effective Student Marketing helped National College put together the seminar “Linking to Your Career: Social Media Networking.” The seminar will teach job seekers about the importance of online image and what they can do to use sites like Facebook and LinkedIn appropriately in the job search.
“We’ve been working closely with National College to create a solid presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media sites already. It made sense for us to help them teach students, graduates, and other CareerFest attendees about the important role these sites can play in their careers,” explained Andy Kelley, president of Effective Student Marketing, Inc.
Kelley will also be attending CareerFest 2011 to help cover the event and promote it using social media. He’ll be using Twitter to document the seminars, job opportunities, announcements, and photos from the event in real time. These live updates will appear on National College’s Twitter account at www.twitter.com/natlcollege.
“We know that the Career Services department is a crucial part of any school,” explained Kelley. “By helping Career Services use social media to promote events and offerings, we’re helping to raise awareness and get more students and graduates involved. We’re going to them on social media, rather than waiting for them to stop by an office on campus.”
National College regularly participates in career and job fairs at all of its campuses across the country. The events bring together students, graduates, community members, and local employers, all with the same goal in mind: to help people find jobs. While this is the first event that involves such extensive social media coverage, it certainly won’t be the last.
“We look forward to helping National College cover events in real time like this in the future. Our goal is to empower the staff at each campus to post updates and help cover events like this near them. We want to help them bring their local community online and help it grow,” Kelley said.
