PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Keiser University, an established, regionally accredited Level V Ph.D. institution, has entered the $76 billion golf industry with the addition of the Keiser University College of Golf in west Port St. Lucie. Arthur Keiser, Ph.D. has been recognized as a leader and national expert in career focused, workforce driven education in Florida for over 30 years, however, the College of Golf is a first for the statewide university best known for its healthcare, business and information technology graduates.
"Research of the golf industry demonstrated that it provides employment for over two million people in the United States from Pro Shop managers, tournament operators to course and club staff and managers," said Keiser. Graduates of the program can be eligible for golf employment (http://collegeofgolf.keiseruniversity.edu/placement-services.html) in as little as 16 months with an Associate of Science in Golf Management and they will have earned six credits toward those required for PGA membership, he added.
Classes begin in January, 2010 but enrollment and recruitment are already underway. Prospective students can inquire at the Port St. Lucie campus at 10330 US 1 South, online at www.collegeofgolf.keiseruniversity.edu or by phone at 888-355-4465.
When completed, the 20,000-square-foot facility will include over 4,000 square feet of indoor golf education (http://collegeofgolf.keiseruniversity.edu/curriculum.html) space that houses state-of-the-practice technology including video systems, launch monitors, a 3D swing analysis system, and more. Students will practice at the acclaimed PGA Center for Learning and Performance with its 35 acre lighted practice range, multiple short game areas, dedicated bunker facility, and extensive putting green complex.
"Whether a student is pursuing nursing, culinary arts, biotechnology or golf, we expect them to be professional and passionate about their career choice," said Keiser. "The mission of the university is career focused and this degree, like all others from associate to Ph.D., will combine hands-on experience, credentialed faculty, small class sizes and solid academics."
Keiser believes the College of Golf will attract students from across the United States and internationally providing a much needed boost to the local economy. Keiser University’s annual economic impact on the State of Florida is more than $542 million according to a 2008 study by the Washington Economics Group.
