The Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU) recently named Herzing University Online instructor Michelle Kosalka as its 2011 Teacher of the Year and Herzing University — New Orleans instructor Dr. Mary Green as the runner-up Teacher of the Year with an Honorable Mention.

"We’re thrilled to have the top two teachers of the year among our faculty, which demonstrates the high caliber of the instructors across our 11-campus network," said Renee Herzing, president of Herzing University. "We strive to hire the best educators available and provide them with an environment where they can provide an exceptional education to our students while advancing their skills and careers, and we’re very proud of Michelle and Mary for exemplifying these attributes and earning such high honors for their work."

Kosalka is the General Education Program Chair of English and Communications for Herzing University Online, based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, which serves thousands of students across the United States. She has been working at Herzing University Online since 2009, where she held a position in the Curriculum Development Department before accepting a full-time faculty position later that year. In 2010, she was promoted to the Program Chair of English and Communications, the position she currently holds. Kosalka has a bachelor’s degree in both English and Psychology, a master’s degree in English Literature, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in English.

“Michelle is a real leader among our faculty and one of her biggest achievements has been the creation of our Online General Education Faculty Hub that allows faculty to come together online and share information,” said Dr. Todd Rickel, president of Herzing University Online. “She is also a leader in integrating rich media into lesson plans by testing and tracking the effectiveness of new programs in her own classes so other faculty can learn what works best from her experience.”

Dr. Mary Green, Nursing Director at Herzing University – New Orleans, earned an Honorable Mention Teacher of the Year award from APSCU in recognition of her exceptional teaching ability and campus leadership. Green has been a member of the Herzing University faculty since 2009. She has bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Nursing.

“Dr. Green is a fantastic teacher and she has done a great job as our director of nursing,” said Mark Aspiazu, campus president of Herzing University – New Orleans. “We’re very proud of her achievements and the recognition that she has received at the national level from the ASPCU.”
