Kaplan College Opens in Arlington

Arlington, Texas, Dec. 11, 2009 — Kaplan Higher Education has opened a new Kaplan College campus in Arlington, which began classes today. The school, located at 2241 South Watson Rd. in Arlington, will help serve the community’s needs for career-focused education and provide local employers with skilled graduates in high-demand fields. The Arlington campus is Kaplan Higher Education’s seventeenth campus in the state of Texas.

"We are excited to extend our foundation for high-quality educational services, strong curriculum and personal approach to students here in Arlington and the surrounding communities," said Beth Hollenberg, chief operating officer of Kaplan Higher Education Campuses. "The Arlington area is an important community for us, and Kaplan is committed to offering educational opportunities in some of the most in-demand employment fields in the state."

Led by Mark Evans, executive director of Kaplan College, the campus opens by offering four diploma programs including medical assistant, dental assistant, medical billing and coding specialist and computer support technician. The campus will begin offering its associate degree programs in 2010. These programs are designed to aid students in obtaining the knowledge, technical skills and work habits relevant to pursuing a wide variety of entry-level positions in their field of study.

“Opening another Kaplan campus in Texas will allow us to better serve local residents who seek quality, career-focused training,” Evans said. “We offer a unique integration of curriculum with professional skill development to empower students to achieve their life-long personal and professional goals.”

The college’s nearly 24,000 square-foot facility features multiple classrooms, which include three computer labs, two medical assistant labs, one dental lab, lecture rooms, the Firearm Training Simulator room that accompanies the criminal justice program and a learning resource center for student research. The facility is in the process of seeking the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for the exterior shell. By using a LEED certified architect and improving the efficiency of the heating and cooling, installing efficient plumbing fixtures, using environmentally friendly materials and purchasing 35 percent green power from TXU, the new campus is dedicated an environmentally friendly operation.

Kaplan College offers each student job search assistance through its career services department and tutoring at no extra charge. The Kaplan College Arlington campus is nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE).
