Liberty University’s ‘Your 24’ Video Competition Strengthens the Institution’s Online Community

Lynchburg, Va. (Feb. 8, 2010) — Liberty University Online asked students to share their lives with fellow students through the "Your 24" video contest. More than 60 students submitted entries, capturing what they considered to be a typical 24 hours in their day balancing work, family, ministries and, of course, college courses.

In her winning video, Caitlyn Rosander of North Carolina said, "It’s hard to say exactly what will happen in a typical day in my life, but I do know that with all the busyness and distractions around us, Liberty Online lets me unwind and rewind." Rosander was awarded first place and a one-semester tuition scholarship.

Other videos invited viewers along as students brushed their teeth in the morning, caught up on textbook reading assignments on their lunch break and ate dinner with their family. Some videos were entertaining with one student rapping a new “Liberty Online” song, while others were heartwarming in showing the life of a widowed mother of triplets. But the consistent trait throughout each submission was the fast-paced life and busy schedules of these individuals from around the world.

By sharing videos through the Liberty University Online Facebook fan page and Tangle page students inspired a virtual community, encouraging each other as they balance their lives with their educational goals. During the competition our Facebook community increased by more than 1,800 fans.

The following students were selected as winners:

  • 1st place – Caitlyn Rosander: One-semester tuition scholarship, worth up to $4,740
  • 2nd place – LuAnn Billet: One-class scholarship, worth up to $1,320
  • 3rd place – Jeffrey Ford: One-semester book voucher, worth up to $500
  • Viewers’ Choice award – Kari Whatley & Jeffrey Ford: One-class scholarship, worth up to $1,320

Videos were judged based on quality, humor, appeal, technical merit and ability to depict a day in the life of an online student. Viewers’ Choice awards were based on the number of votes each entry received on the Liberty University Online Facebook fan page.
