ATLANTA – (April 2, 2012) – Medtech’s Marietta and Tucker campuses have been granted approval from the Council on Occupational Education (COE) to operate as Medtech College. The campuses offer a Medical Assistant, Associate of Applied Science degree, along with diploma programs in Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding. In addition, both campuses will offer two new short-term certificate programs in 2012: Electronic Health Records Specialist and Phlebotomy.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook (2010-2011), career opportunities in health care continue to grow at a pace much faster than the average for other professions. Health care careers are poised to expand even more as technological advances, including electronic health records (EHR), and the growth of an aging population lead to an increased need for health care workers.
“We are gratified to have earned standing as Medtech College, the result of exceptional learning experiences that prepare our graduates to excel in their chosen field of study,” said Theo Anderson, who oversees operations at the Atlanta campuses as Regional Vice President of Operations.
“Through our Medical Assistant degree program, diploma programs in Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding, new Phlebotomy and Electronic Health Records Specialist programs, and diversified menu of other healthcare-related courses, our campuses are well-positioned to prepare graduates for rewarding career opportunities.”
Medtech College focuses primarily on preparing students for professions in health care and offers education and training programs in some of the most popular healthcare specialty areas, including Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding. In fact, Medical Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding are ranked in their Top 10 Hottest Jobs for 2012 listings by MSN and TechMediaNetwork.
The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook supports those expectations, predicting excellent employment opportunities for Medical Assistant graduates based on a projected 34 percent growth in jobs through 2018. BLS also expects strong growth for Medical Billing and Coding specialists, who are included among Medical Records and Health Information Technicians, a field forecast to increase by approximately 20 percent during the same period. Similarly, employment in electronic health records and phlebotomy is forecast to grow faster than the average with job prospects rated by the BLS as very good to excellent through 2018.
Medtech is nationally accredited with several campuses also offering nursing training. Students are able to select from enhanced course offerings backed by the resources of an educational network committed to quality education and dedicated to preparing students for extraordinary new futures in healthcare.
