Florence, KY – February 23, 2010 — Staying true to its commitment to meet the evolving needs of the community, Beckfield College has added new in-demand programs to its slate of academic offerings. This locally based and operated degree granting institution of higher learning, with campuses in Florence, Kentucky and Tri-County Cincinnati, Ohio, offers bachelor and associate degrees, along with certificate and diploma programs in business, health, computer technology, criminal justice, and legal studies. New programs include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and associate degrees in Cardiology Technician and Hospitality Administration.
"This Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a perfect fit for a Registered Nurse (RN) looking to add to their educational credentials to explore increased opportunities in the work place," explained Tim Curl, dean of Nursing at Beckfield College. “This RN to BSN rounds out our Registered and Practical Nursing programs already offered at our main campus in Florence.”
The BSN program is an aggressive 6-quarter program for individuals who have an associate degree in nursing and have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The RN to BSN program provides the junior and senior years of a baccalaureate degree to registered nurses and, upon graduation, may offer greater opportunities for salary increases, upward mobility, job security and more.
The Cardiology Technician program provides multi-skill preparation for careers involving selected skills in medical assisting and electrocardiography (EKG or ECG). Graduates provide integral, multi-functional clinical roles in the healthcare field.
“We understand we are an important resource for people looking for fresh starts or a more non-traditional approach to postsecondary education,” explained Diane Wolfer, president of Beckfield College. “Having surpassed the 1000 student mark in 2010 and unemployment figures still worrisome, we felt it vitally important to expand our program offerings in response to student and community need.”
Additional degree and diploma programs will be offered later in 2010. Beckfield College is here for the long haul to meet the growing educational needs career colleges know how to provide. Many high school graduates and non-traditional college students need a smaller, more personalized approach to postsecondary education. These students may have jobs, children, cultural challenges, or diverse foundations that make the traditional path too challenging. Career colleges have built themselves around these students’ needs while focusing on a future with hope and stability. According to a report from the National Governor’s Association released last month (http://www.nga.org/Files/pdf/0912INCREASINGCOLLEGESUCCESS.PDF), “Nearly 75 percent of future jobs will require a postsecondary degree or certificate, and many of these job openings will be in middle-skill professions that require more than a high school degree but less than a four-year college degree.”
Understanding the needs of students, Beckfield College lives by its motto, “Success in College is Success in Life.” There is no better testimonial than that of a recent nursing graduate raving about her new job to Dean Curl. “Thank you all so much. I’m grateful for the education I had. I’m driven, but you all encouraged me, taught me and really pulled for me to succeed.”
Beckfield College is a private, post-secondary education institution accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) that has been evolving to meet the educational needs of its learners while meeting the demands of the community and area businesses since 1984. With a campus in Florence, Kentucky and another in Tri-County Cincinnati, Beckfield College focuses on career paths in Business Administration, Cardiology Technician, Computer Network Administration, Criminal Justice, Health Care Management, Health Information Technology, Hospitality Administration, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Technology, Nursing (BSN, RN, LPN) and Paralegal Studies.
