Lenexa, Kan., Jan. 25, 2010 — Four million cats and dogs — about one every eight seconds — are euthanized in U.S. shelters each year because they are homeless with no family to adopt them. In the Kansas City metropolitan area alone, more than 20,000 animals are killed in shelters. With the number of animal deaths on the rise, organizations are coming together to save and improve the lives of dogs and cats throughout the greater Kansas City community.
One local advertising agency is finding ways to raise funds to help these animals in need. On Jan. 29, PlattForm Advertising will host the 2nd annual PlattForm Paws for a Cause to benefit the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. Organized by seven employees, the event consists of a $5 company breakfast from 8:30-9:30 a.m., a bake sale from 1:00-3:00 pm, a silent auction from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a photo contest.
Last year, PlattForm raised more than $1,500 in employee donations. This year, the goal has been set at $2,000. Proceeds from the event will assist the Humane Society in continuing their mission of improving the lives of animals by providing education, adoptions, preventive veterinary care and spay/neuter services.
“Animals are reliable, full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal,” Senior Account Coordinator Kari Fajen said. “They give so much of themselves without expecting anything in return, and Paws for a Cause is a way for us to give back to them.”
To make all the Paws for a Cause events a possibility, the group looked into several sponsors including Ani-Pals Pet Resort, Bella Capelli, Einstein Bagels, First Watch, Gatos Cat Boutique, Hy-Vee, India Palace Restaurant, Jason’s Deli, Jimmy John’s, Life is Good, Massage Envy, Sole Patch, Sydney’s Pet Spa, My Yuppie Puppy, Panera, Paws at Play, Taste and Wheat State Pizza.
Other businesses interested in sponsoring the event will receive sponsorship advertising in all of PlattForm’s promotional pieces, including flyers posted throughout the PlattForm building, all-company emails and a list of sponsor names at the breakfast/bake sale.
Paws for a Cause is not the first philanthropic event PlattForm Advertising has promoted. Many of the employees were interested in uniting their passions for charity. As a result, the philanthropic committee “Team Phil” was born. Since then, Team Phil holds a monthly charity event benefiting organizations throughout the Kansas City area, including the SAVE Inc., Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, TLC for Children and Families, Inc., and much more!
