President Janet S. Day to Retire From Art Institute of Atlanta

Jack Kraft, PhD, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and John Mazzoni, President of The Art Institutes, have announced that Janet S. Day, who has been president of The Art Institute of Atlanta since 1998, will retire effective February 28, 2010. In their letter to faculty and staff, they said, "President Day has been a strong leader, a trusted colleague, and a great steward of the institution. Her accomplishments have been many and she will be missed at The Art Institute of Atlanta and The Art Institutes."

President Day’s career has been dedicated to educating and serving students. For the past twelve years she has served as president of The Art Institute of Atlanta. During this time AiAtlanta has had many significant accomplishments. Some of those include:

  • Growth of AiAtlanta’s local enrollment to nearly 3800 students (including both the Atlanta and Decatur campuses)
  • Numerous service projects to local non-profit organizations, including Web Raising and Design Honors Studio 
  • Relocation of the campus from Buckhead into its current facilities in Sandy Springs
  • Reaffirmation of the institution’s accreditation with the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools(“SACS”) 
  • Accreditation of The Art Institute of Atlanta’s Sandy Springs campus by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (“NASAD”)
  • Accreditation of both associate and bachelor’s degree culinary arts programs by the American Culinary Federation Foundation, Inc., Accrediting Commission
  • Reaffirmation of accreditation for the interior design program by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation
  • Six branch locations established in Charleston, Decatur, Nashville, Washington, Northern Virginia, and Virginia Beach.

In their letter to faculty and staff, Dr. Kraft and President Mazzoni continued, “After a long career as an educator, Janet Day has decided the time is right for her to retire as President. We are sad that she has decided to retire but at the same time we are happy for her as she enters a new phase of life. Please join us in thanking Janet for her service to the organization and wishing her much happiness and good health.”

The search for a new president is underway.
