Minneapolis, MN–(Marketwire – June 22, 2010) — Rasmussen College is honored to announce that it has received a ten year grant of accreditation, the longest period of time for which an academic institution can receive approval without an interim visit, from its accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The HLC recently concluded its comprehensive evaluation of Rasmussen College and granted the College approval to expand its Bachelor degree offerings in addition to its 10-year grant of approval. The intense evaluation, which included campus visits, curriculum evaluation, student success analysis, and interviews with faculty, staff and college leadership, came as part of a scheduled comprehensive review, which accrediting agencies perform during required review cycles. The Rasmussen College visit concluded in October of 2009 and the recommendations of the team were approved by the HLC Board of Directors in April of 2010.
In its evaluation, the HLC peer reviewers reported that, "[Rasmussen] College has remained true to its mission, purposes, and core values by focusing its resources on meeting the needs of its various communities in providing educational programs." In addition, the team reported tha
"[Rasmussen College] promotes a life of learning for its faculty, administration, staff, and students by fostering and supporting inquiry, creativity, practice, and social responsibility in ways consistent with its mission."
With this new grant of accreditation, Rasmussen College will expand its Bachelor’s degree offerings in Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. In addition, Rasmussen College will begin offering Bachelor’s degrees in Illinois for the first time. Moreover, Rasmussen College will also continue to develop new baccalaureate degree offerings that are in high demand both online and across its 21 campuses.
Rasmussen Vice Chairman and President Emeritus of Northwestern University, Dr. Henry S. Bienen, commented on the recent HLC decision: "Accreditation is the standard by which an institution of higher learning is measured, and this grant of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission, is an A plus for Rasmussen College. The dedication to excellence and the outstanding performance of Rasmussen College is evidenced by this wonderful decision by the HLC."
In its conclusion, the HLC report stated: "The [Higher Learning Commission] unanimously concludes that Rasmussen College fulfills all of the criteria for accreditation. Further, the team believes the College has the appropriate resources… to fulfill its mission and to sustain recent growth in the number of students and campuses for the immediate future. The College has shown that it plans carefully and its Board of Directors provides solid leadership and counsel. There is a competent leadership team in place, headed by a well qualified and focused College President."
The Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, oversees the accreditation of degree-granting colleges and universities in nineteen Midwestern and South-Central states.
