Portland — Sanford-Brown College, which provides education in allied health care and related fields designed to prepare its graduates for related employment opportunities, announces the opening of its Portland campus, which is located at 600 SW 10th Avenue in Portland.
Current career-focused training programs being offered at the Portland campus include medical assistant and medical billing and coding. The campus also offers specialized associate degree programs in cardiovascular sonography, diagnostic medical sonography and veterinary technology.
The imaging programs in cardiovascular sonography and diagnostic medical sonography will have the Simpro Virtual Trainer available, which is intended to enhance and complement existing, proven training methods inside the classroom and at clinical sites. This exclusive technology gives students a new way to learn and will provide a convenient and effective way for students to gain experience with key clinical procedures at any time.
"This location marks our second in the Western United States," said Tom O’Donnell, vice president of operations for the Health Education Strategic Business Unit of Career Education Corporation, parent company of Sanford-Brown schools. “As the city’s population is growing and the demand for health care jobs continues to be strong, we decided to expand our network of schools."
The Portland campus will also feature a “Service Learning” component in its classes. This enhancement to curricula is intended to provide an opportunity to engage students in the educational process by requiring them to apply their classroom learning to help solve real-life problems. The curriculum will require each student to participate in Service Learning activities as they progress in their programs. This will be initiated in the medical assistant program in 2010 but it is expected to be part of nearly every program by 2011.
