Vista College Celebrates First Graduation

  • Just over 130 graduates walked across the stage to receive diplomas from the private college’s seven programs, which include career areas such as cosmetology, business management and information technology.
  • “We are very proud of them,” said James Campbell, campus director for Vista’s Killeen location. The college, an accredited for-profit post-secondary institution, began classes in January 2013 in a 32,000-square-foot building at 1001 S. Fort Hood St. Killeen Assistant City Manager Ann Farris served as the inaugural guest speaker for the commencement.
  • “You’re here today to be celebrated,” she said. Jamielyn Schweigert, a graduate of Vista’s medical assistant program, addressed her fellow graduates at Saturday’s ceremony.
  • Schweigert thanked her family, fellow students and educators for helping her overcome the challenges she faced as she moved forward with her education.
  • “Today is day that we place faith in ourselves as we take the next step in our lives,” she said. “Never stop believing in yourself and following your dreams.”
  • Two other students were recognized with special awards. Medical assistant program graduate Brittany Coleman received the college’s “New Horizon” award. Cosmetology graduate Regale Slater received the New Horizon and student of the year award.
