WyoTech Announces Laramie Winner Of 2012 Dream Award

WyoTech-Laramie selected Lionel Reese as the school’s 2012 campus Dream Award winner. He is a recent graduate from the automotive technician program with an emphasis on applied service management. The award recognizes graduates who have overcome extraordinary obstacles to complete their post-secondary education and find success in their chosen fields.

In spite of limited mobility in his left arm and hand caused by a stroke at birth, Reese chose a career as an automotive technician. Most people with this type of disability may avoid an industry that is primarily hands on. However, Reese viewed it as a challenge and was determined to succeed.

While at WyoTech, Reese excelled in his studies and as a community volunteer. He quickly became a class leader and achieved “Eagle Tech” status, which requires a student to be in the top five of his or her class with perfect attendance throughout the year. Reese volunteered frequently for the local Laramie community and when a massive tornado hit his hometown in Alabama, Reese joined the tornado relief team and gave countless hours to help rebuild his community.

“Lionel’s tireless determination to succeed is a quality we want in all of our students,” said Guy Warpness, president at WyoTech’s Laramie campus. “His example of leadership has inspired many throughout our campus.”

Currently, Reese is employed at Bridgestone Firestone. As a Dream Award winner, Lionel will receive a $2,500 scholarship to pursue advanced programs in his field of study.
