Washington, D.C. (March 21, 2011) — Every year thousands of Americans invest in a college education with the goal that it will position them for better work and higher wages. Early education about responsible borrowing can help students better prepare themselves for the future.
To offer for-profit students additional guidance through the financial aid process, YTI Career Institute (YTI) has signed up five of their campuses to utilize the Foundation’s Financial Planning Made Simple (FPMS) tool with all their students. The easy-to-use interactive video will allow students to choose between either a male or female avatar who will walk them through a variety of important educational financial decisions including budgeting, burrowing, and repayment process.
The Foundation created the Financial Planning Made Simple tool to help students be proactive and get involved with their finances so their life after college isn’t hampered by excessive loan payments. The video gives students the opportunity to calculate their own budgets by using the downloadable FPMS Student Financial Planning Tool. It allows users to visually see exactly where their money is being spent in hopes of helping students to decrease overspending and increase their savings.
“For many students, a college education represents the single largest financial decision they make in their lifetime,” said Robert L. Martin, President of Imagine America Foundation. “With our program, YTI students will learn the financial obligations they are going to face upon graduation and have a plan in place to pay it back.”
YTI is a private, for-profit post-secondary institution of higher education serving south-central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. By participating in the Imagine America Foundation Scholarship and Award Programs and using Financial Planning Made Simple, YTI students will receive the additional guidance and knowledge about the financial aid process.
Colleges participating in the Imagine America scholarship and award programs can make the FPMS tool available to all their students for a small fee. Additionally, colleges not involved in the scholarship and award programs have an opportunity to use the FPMS tool for an annual fee.
