A $1,000 scholarship can make a significant difference for college students piecing together funding for their education. Thanks to The Sallie Mae Fund, students attending career colleges are closer to seeing their dreams through to graduation.
The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, has donated $35,000 to the Imagine America Promise scholarship program. Students receiving the scholarships are previous recipients of the Foundation’s Imagine America high school scholarship who have maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average and at least 95 percent attendance record.
Since 2004, The Sallie Mae Fund has been a key supporter of the Imagine America Promise programs. This scholarship is part of The Sallie Mae Fund’s initiative to improve access to higher education by targeting underserved populations with information, resources and scholarship dollars. In 2006, The Sallie Mae Fund awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships to help roughly 1,000 students meet the cost of college. More information about The Sallie Mae Fund’s scholarship and other programs is available at www.salliemaefund.org.
“While many promising young students assume that they will not be able to cover the cost of college, scholarships like these make a significant difference in helping them bridge the financial gap,” said Kathleen deLaski, president of the The Sallie Mae Fund. “The Imagine America Promise scholarship, in particular, helps career college students stay on track to achieving their educational and career goals.”
IAF created the Imagine America Promise program (formerly named the Imagine America II scholarship program) in 2002. Working in partnership with corporate and private funding sources, the scholarship secures aid for students attending career colleges in the United States and Puerto Rico. To date, the Foundation has secured more than $300,000 in grants, which has supported more than 350 career college students.
“These types of donations help put a lot of students over the top of their funding barriers,” said Bob Martin, president of the Imagine America Foundation. “We greatly appreciate the difference The Sallie Mae Fund has been able to make in the lives of career college students year after year.”
